Nestlé launching new meat-free brand in the UK

Nestlé are launching their meat-free brand, Garden Gourmet on the UK market, offering more new options for UK consumers. The brand is being launched in the UK to accommodate for the growing flexitarian population in the country, and the growing number of people removing meat and other animal products from their diets.

The products are being sold in Sainsbury’s and Ocado, and are available to buy now. The brand’s product portfolio consists of four different categories, with 12 items in total. Categories include Familiar Swaps, Veggie Creations, Just Ingredients and Snack On. Meat-free burgers, mince and mezze selections are a few of the products available.

One of the products available at Sainsbury’s that is suitable for vegans is the Meat Free Simply Mince and some of the other products contain egg, making them only suitable for vegetarians, or those who are reducing meat from their diets. However, there are more vegan products in their portfolio on their website.

Nestlé claim that all of their products under this brand do not contain any artificial flavours or preservatives, and don’t fall into any red labels on the traffic light system of nutrition labelling. The brand is aimed at flexitarian consumers who want to cut down on their meat consumption, and the products are also good for those who want to grow muscle mass, as well as being a source of fibre.

Paula Jordan, managing director of Nestlé’s UK Food Division, said: “We are incredibly excited to introduce this new delicious food brand into the meat-free category which is one of the most innovative areas in the food segment.

“We find that people want to enjoy a healthier diet and try to eat less meat, but they are sometimes disappointed with the taste. We’ve been working hard to offer something different to consumers and have developed a versatile range of delicious meat-free products packed with flavour to make sure there is no need to compromise on taste ever again.”
