Gingerbread fans around the UK will jump for joy this week. Yesterday, Morrisons launched a new limited edition Gingerbread Doughnut… and it’s vegan!

Morrisons have long been loved by customers for their gingerbread men, and in the past have been championed by non-vegans for their filled doughnuts. But, finally, this recipe has been specially redesigned so they are suitable for vegans and those on dairy-free diets.

The vegan gingerbread Christmas doughnuts will be prepared fresh daily by Morrisons bakers.

The doughnuts have a fluffy moist outer and are finished with a dusting of sugar. Each Christmas treat will be filled with a rich and comforting ginger cream custard – made from an intense blend of spices, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise.

Each vegan gingerbread doughnut is made from scratch each day by Morrisons’ craft skilled bakers in stores. They are filled and sugared by hand.

‘The best vegan doughnuts’

Andy Clarke, Bakery Buyer at Morrisons said: “We’d seen gingerbread lattes going down a storm – and had an idea to mash up our famous gingerbread men with our filled doughnuts.”

“Customers tell us our filled doughnuts are the best ‘accidentally vegan’ doughnuts they’ve found – so we’ve made sure that this recipe was no exception.”

The Morrisons vegan Gingerbread Doughnuts come in packs of five and cost just 50p. They are available from 400 Morrisons stores nationwide now.

Morrisons have a whole host of vegan-friendly products launching in the run up to Christmas this year, not just their new vegan gingerbread doughnuts. Highlights include The Best Tempura No-Prawns and No-Duck Spring Rolls, The Best Beefless Wellington, and The Best Vegan Trifle.
