Häagen-Dazs releases vegan ice cream range

Häagen-Dazs, the global ice-cream company, has launched a range of four vegan ice cream flavours in the US.

The well-known brand has released the four non-dairy vegan ice cream products, which are made from dairy alternatives such as soy and coconut, due to growing consumer demand.

The four flavours of the vegan ice cream are mocha chocolate cookie, peanut butter chocolate fudge, chocolate salted fudge truffle and coconut caramel. They have been spotted in Target stores across the US. It is yet to be seen whether the global brand will roll these products out to other markets too.

In a statement, Häagen-Dazs commented: “While most non-dairy options simply start by substituting soy, almond or cashew milk, every flavour in our new collection begins with a core ingredient, like real pieces of Belgian chocolate, actual peanut butter, or real coconut cream.”

The rise in vegan products from international brands is a clear sign that the plant-based market is thriving. Häagen-Dazs follows in the footsteps of other huge brands releasing vegan products. Last year, Unilever-owned Ben and Jerry’s released its first range of vegan ice creams. Last week, Unilever launched a new vegan I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter product. Having seen this rapid success Häagen-Dazs clearly want to tap into the growing market.

Recently, Danone announced plans to invest millions of dollars in a new advertising campaign for its vegan brand So Delicious. The brand’s range includes ice creams, coffee creamers and yoghurts, and will be promoted using the ‘Nothing Compares’ advertising campaign slogan.

The dairy-free industry is booming, with a recent report showing a 600 per cent increase in the number of vegans to around 19 million now. Plus, there are also a rising number of people choosing to cut down on their consumption of animal products, so that they eat a mostly vegetarian or ‘flexitarian’ diet.
